ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Lead Physical Security Design Engineer, you will have a proven track record working in data centre and CRE environments.
In this pivotal role, you will be a key member of our Digital Services team, not only leading and managing projects but also driving the growth of our business in this sector.
Your expertise will help us chart a secure course into the future of data centre physical security.
About you:
Degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master or professional certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM) advantageous.
10+ years’ experience in data centre, commercial, healthcare, and pharma security design
Proven experience in security design, specifically in data centre environments.
Strong knowledge of security architectures, networks, access controls, and secure coding practices.
Experience with industry standards, i.e. – excellent understanding of EN/ISO/BS standards regulations/codes and relevant security systems certification standards.
Experience in conducting physical on-site data centre security evaluations.
Demonstrable CPD record in engineering/technology subjects.
Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software.
Experience in CAD document handling and drawing production.
Experience with Bluebeam documents and designing with Revit.
Your day-to-day activities:
Lead the development and implementation of detailed security designs for data centres, including physical security measures (VSS, access control systems, intrusion detection, etc..).
Conduct risk assessments, threat modelling, and vulnerability analyses to evaluate physical and cyber security risks.
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international security legislation and standards, including those specifically related to physical security.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and address specific security requirements.
Regularly evaluate and upgrade security systems as per industry best practices and emerging threats.
Work closely with IT, Operations, and Facilities Management teams to ensure an integrated approach to security, aligning protocols with overall business objectives.
Provide training and technical guidance on security protocols to staff and management, with a particular focus on awareness of physical security measures and procedures.
Develop cost benefit analysis of security systems, appraisal of system investments, market studies and regulatory and licensing issues advantageous.
Coordinating security design at technical meetings with technical counterparts in other engineering disciplines.
Ensure specifications, drawings and calculations meet industry, legal and quality standards.
Facilitate peer and QA review of all documents and drawings.
Desirable Attributes:
Advanced expertise in emerging trends and technologies in physical security, including smart surveillance systems, biometric authentication, and advanced access control systems.
Prior experience in implementing physical security measures in data centres, such as secure zones, VSS systems, perimeter security, intrusion detection systems, and emergency response protocols.
Familiarity with threat modelling and risk assessment methods specific to physical security in data centre environments and CRE.
Certification or training in physical security-specific programs (e.g., PSP, CPNI) is highly regarded.
Understanding of the integration of physical and cyber security measures for a comprehensive security approach.
